Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar
About Tour
The Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar is regarded as the most sacred Muslim shrine and mosque in Kashmir. It is situated along the shores of the Dal Lake and is distinguished by its striking white marble architecture. The shrine preserves a revered relic known as Moi-e-Muqqadas, believed to be a sacred hair from the beard of Prophet Muhammad. This holy relic is displayed to the public only on special religious occasions.
The name “Hazratbal” comes from the Kashmiri language, where Hazrat means “holy” and bal translates to “place.” The shrine is also known by other names such as Assar-e-Sharief, Madinat-us-Sani, and Dargah Shari. Notably, it is the only mosque in Srinagar that features a dome, making it architecturally unique in the region.
Hazratbal Shrine is one of the most frequently visited landmarks in Srinagar, admired for its remarkable architectural beauty. The elegant dome and towering minaret reflect strong influences of Mughal design, while elements of traditional Kashmiri architecture are also clearly visible in its overall structure.
