Gurez Valley Tour

About Tour

Gurez Valley is a high-altitude valley located in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an elevation of around 8,000 feet above sea level, Gurez lies close to the Line of Control and is surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Himalayan range. The valley is about 123 km from Srinagar and can be reached via the scenic Razdan Pass.

Bounded by snow-clad mountains, lush meadows, and dense forests, Gurez is known for its untouched natural beauty and serene environment. The crystal-clear Kishanganga River flows through the valley, adding to its charm. In ancient times, Gurez was an important part of the Silk Route, connecting Kashmir with Gilgit and Central Asia. Traders and travelers passed through this region, making it historically significant.

The valley is home to the Dard-Shina community, whose unique culture, language, and traditional wooden houses give Gurez a distinctive identity. Even today, the lifestyle here remains simple and deeply connected with nature.

Gurez is a perfect destination for campers and adventure lovers. You can camp along the banks of the Kishanganga River or in the open meadows near Dawar. There are multiple ways to explore the valley — you can trek through alpine trails, walk along scenic riversides, or enjoy horse riding across the vast grasslands. The breathtaking landscapes, peaceful atmosphere, and raw beauty make Gurez one of the most beautiful and less-explored destinations of Kashmir

Day-1 Gurez Valley

Gurez Valley is one of the most pristine and unexplored destinations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Located in the Bandipora district, it lies about 123 km from Srinagar and sits at an altitude of around 8,000 ft above sea level. Surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas and situated along the banks of the roaring Kishanganga River, Gurez offers breathtaking landscapes and untouched natural beauty.

The valley remains covered with snow for nearly six months of the year and is accessible through the scenic Razdan Pass. Known for its wooden houses, rich Dard-Shina culture, and peaceful environment, Gurez is an ideal destination for nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking tranquility away from city life.

Day 2-Dawar & Habba Khatoon Peak

Dawar is the main town and headquarters of Gurez Valley. It is surrounded by lush green meadows and traditional wooden homes that reflect the simple lifestyle of the local Dard community. From Dawar, visitors can witness the iconic Habba Khatoon Peak, named after the famous Kashmiri poetess Habba Khatoon.

Tourists can enjoy riverside walks along the Kishanganga River, interact with the locals, and explore nearby villages like Chorwan and Bagtore. The valley’s serene environment and scenic beauty make it perfect for relaxation and photography.

Day-3 Tulail Valley

Tulail Valley lies further ahead of Dawar and is known for its untouched natural charm. The valley is dotted with alpine meadows, wooden bridges, and small hamlets. It is one of the most scenic parts of Gurez and offers panoramic views of mountains and crystal-clear streams.

This region is ideal for trekking and nature exploration. The simple lifestyle of the locals and the absence of commercial tourism give Tulail an authentic and peaceful atmosphere.

Day-4 Razdan Pass

Razdan Pass, situated at an altitude of about 11,700 ft, is the gateway to Gurez Valley. The drive through this high mountain pass offers spectacular views of dense forests, snow-covered slopes, and winding roads. During winter, the pass remains closed due to heavy snowfall, making summer the best time to visit.

The journey through Razdan Pass itself is an unforgettable experience, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges before descending into the beautiful valley of Gurez.
