The Maharani Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is perched on a small hillock that can be seen from all parts of the town. Its vibrant red roof stands out beautifully against the surrounding green meadows. Also referred to as the Rani Temple or Mohineshwar Shivalaya, the temple gained additional fame as the filming location for the popular Bollywood song “Jai Jai Shiv Shankar.”

Constructed in 1915 by Mohini Bai Sisodia, the wife of Maharaja Hari Singh, the temple belongs to the heritage of the Dogra rulers of Jammu & Kashmir. Located in the heart of Gulmarg, the Maharani Temple is notable not only for its religious significance but also for its unique tradition of a Muslim priest performing rituals, reflecting the region’s harmonious cultural blend.

The Rani Temple is built in the traditional Hindu architectural style, reflecting classic design elements and craftsmanship. The temple complex and its surrounding areas are carefully maintained, preserving their cleanliness and sanctity. The shrine remains open to visitors daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and the aarti ritual is conducted twice each day.
